Slimy tubes

Slimy tubes
Camp Creek Run, Marlton, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
July 28, 2010
Size: Maybe around 20 mm?
Slimy tubes of eggs(?) in the water(pond?). I'm not so sure if they are insect or toad/frog/fish? I think that they are trying to hatch some.

Moved
Moved from Chironominae.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. Cool, it looks like we didn't have any of this kind unless they are at a more specific level in the guide.

Definitely insect eggs
I want to say dragonfly, but I'm not sure if theirs are ever in neat spirals like this. Midge eggs definitely are in neat spirals... oh, and my book tells me the masses can be up to 25 mm by 5 mm (p. 8). So yeah, I'll go with some big chironomid.

midge eggs
These are midge eggs from the family Chironomidae, subfamily Chironominae.

Thanks everyone
They've hatched so maybe I can go over to the camp and get some more images.
