Confusion - Desmometopa

Confusion - Desmometopa
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
July 26, 2010
We saw a honey bee surrounded by a cloud of black dots. Looking closer, we discovered it had been captured by an ambush bug and the black dots were a flock of flies that zoomed in to share the feast.

Awesome, these are Milichiida
Awesome, these are Milichiidae, which are kind of freeloaders, they lick some of the fluid up which comes out of the prey while the predator is a messy eater... They do this with spiders, bugs and Robber flies the most often... nice series of pictures!
Cheers
