Ant on Mushroom - Aphaenogaster

Ant on Mushroom - Aphaenogaster
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
June 27, 2010
Size: 3.5 mm
This ant was taking a stroll across a mushroom; ID help appreciated!

Thanks!
Moved from Ants.

Thanks very much, Richard!

Aphaenogaster sp. - worker
One of the brown species of the rudis-group.

Difficult group.
And probably always will be from photos, but this looks pretty clearly like what is now going by Aphaenogaster picea. As Richard says, one of the brown species, though I would qualify that with dark or pitch-brown, to distinguish from the reddish brown of rudis.
