Fulvous Hairstreak? - Electrostrymon angelia

Fulvous Hairstreak? - Electrostrymon angelia
Venice, Sarasota County, Florida, USA
February 13, 2006
According to what I've seen this butterfly is not supposed to be here. I just wanted to make sure it is a Fulvous. Sarasota Butterfly Club does not have it on their list.

Moved
Moved to guide. Nice find!

Thank you Matthew
Thanks for the compliment and for moving it.

Correct ID
Carla, your ID appears to be correct. It is an introduced species to Southern FL and fairly common so it wouldn't be too unusual to be found in the Sarasota area.

Thank you Bob and Tony
Strange that the butterfly club doesn't have it on their list.

Why not.....
make them aware of your discovery, Carla. It may be that their list has not been updated recently. This species may be spreading northward.

I did
in a way. I went to their site and got an email address and sent her the pic but have not heard back.

Hairstreaks
are tough to ID. Certainly looks like a Fulvous. Known from and common in southern FL, flies all year, larvae on Brazilian Pepper. A West Indies species that is still moving northwards in FL.
