Bridled Arches - Lacinipolia lorea

Bridled Arches - Lacinipolia lorea
Town of Baileys Harbor, Hidden Corners Sanctuary, Door County, Wisconsin, USA
June 23, 2005
Adult came to night light. ID was made by examining the specimen. This species also came to a black light on June 23, 2003. That one was a DOOR COUNTY RECORD. I have often noticed that the same species of moth will arrive on exactly the same date the next year and often in subsequent years.

But these dates
are a month apart!?

Dates
Janice J. Stiefel You are correct, John and Jane, that's a typo. They did appear on exactly the same month and date. I doubled- checked my data base again. Sorry for the confusion. Actually, I was surprised myself to see the month difference when you brought that to my attention. I will change it right now. Thanks for the sharp eyes on your part.

How do they respond
on Leap Years? Same date or 1-day earlier?

Same date appearances
Janice J. Stiefel Tony, this has happened quite often over the years. The stranger part is that some species have appeared in Door County and (in another year) in Sheboygan County on the same date. Someday I should go through my data base and compile all these same date occurrences. It would be a mind-boggling and time-consuming procedure, but would probably be an eye-opener...SOMEDAY!!
