Large bumble bee with lots of yellow - Bombus sonorus

Large bumble bee with lots of yellow - Bombus sonorus
Madrona Marsh Preserve, Torrance, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 30, 2010
Size: ~ 18 mm
This large bumble bee with lots of yellow is apparently a recent addition to our fauna.

The color-pattern matches Bombus fervidus quite well, but they usually don't venture this far south ...
I therefore suspect that it is an atypical color-variant of Bombus crotchii.
Are they more yellow in coastal Southern California ?
