This is a very very, aberrant
This is a very very, aberrant male of Philonthus lomatus...
They sometimes have vaguely reddish elytra but this individual is so small...it comes in at 6.4-6.5mm, smaller than the size range given in the revision. However, all other similar species have been compared and there is no other option. Weird.

This is a Philonthus, there is a slight possibility for species ID if it has no microsculpture on the pronotum. Any close-up on that region may help...
It's almost staph season again Tom, it's great to see you're already out poking around for them!
