Compact red-brown Quaker-like Moth with carpet-patterning - Protorthodes rufula

Compact red-brown Quaker-like Moth with carpet-patterning - Protorthodes rufula
Madrona Marsh Preserve, Torrance, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 7, 2010
Size: ~ 15 mm long
Came to black-light.

Seems to be a Quaker Moth (Protorthodes rufula).
But then there is the mysteriously similar-looking Homoglaea californica.
We'd highly appreciate it if someone could enlighten the BG community by pointing out the differences between these two species in different tribes.

Thanks again, Jason !
What do you think of Protorthodes rufula ?

Yes
Protorthodes rufula would be my call.

Awesome ! Thanks Jason !
Shall I move it there (until anyone protests) ?

Sure
Move at will. :-)

further insight
I learned that Homoglaea californica adults fly from late November to March, rarely April.
This rules H. californica out as a potential candidate, as this adult was flying in June.

I also learned that the food-plants of Protorthodes rufula larvae are various rosaceous trees and shrubs.
There are a few rosaceous trees and shrubs on the Preserve, namely: Toyon (Heteromeles arbutifolia), Catalina cherry (Prunus lyonii), and California rose (Rosa californica).
Hence, P. rufula is still the primary suspect ...
