The Descent of Ceroplastes - Ceroplastes

The Descent of Ceroplastes - Ceroplastes
Encino, Los Angeles County, California, USA
February 24, 2006
I think I finally have evidence to link these two:

I believe these are different stages in the growth of the same species.

On myrtle (Myrtus communis 'Compacta') in my front yard.

Great image --
three stages in one photo. Looks like evolution happening right before our eyes.

Thanks!
The funny thing is that I didn't even see the earlier-stage ones until I had it open on my computer. I was just trying to get a better picture of the mature ones on the right. It just goes to show the importance of not deleting pictures until you've see them at full resolution.

Couch potatoes
That's what happens to our species if we sit watching the Discovery Channel instead of getting out with our cameras on nature walks ;-)

Ditto John and Jane, too!

I think you're right
see this page.

Thanks!
I had seen an image somewhere of young Ceroplastes, but without an intermediate it was just a strong hunch. Your example is also much more detailed and informative than what I was able to find before.

I think I'll move the cameo-stage pictures and these all to Ceroplastes.
