Lace Bug - Corythucha - BugGuide.Net

A couple of things that may aid ID...

1. Do you know what plant it was on?

2. Was it solo, or part of a colony?

3. Do you have a shot, showing the hood from the side?

(We have an excellent expert for these.)

Thanks Ron, I'll keep that in my mind next time I encounter one. This one landed on me, so I don't know what plant it came from. I guess it was solo. I was standing close to some wild raspberry plants, but there were other weeds around and willow trees. No other shots, sorry.

Corythucha pallipes?

This is very similar to C. associata, but I'm inclined to think it's C. pallipes because it has been recorded on willows and C. associata feeds on wild cherry. However, if wild cherries were around there too, then we'd need to see the lateral view of the hood to help decide on the species.

Oooh!

Nice shot. Such delicate little critters. It's a Lace Bug of some sort. Despite their habits of annoying us gardeners, I consider them lovely and intricate little ones. Someone will be able to tell you the species exactly, perhaps.
