Thanks to everyone for the ID of this bug! It is truly appreciated. I saw a lot of these in the summer, but this is the first one I've seen this winter. Cool stuff.

looks like box elder bug
can be found in the guide here

 
Probably Western Boxelder bug,
given the location - and it has the more prominent wing veins seen on that species. See here in guide.
