Naupactus pallidus

Naupactus pallidus
Junction City, Geary County, Kansas, USA
May 27, 2010
Size: 7.1mm
Picked off a roadside flower (white). The suspected ID is from comparing to a specimen at the Kansas State University Insect Zoo and from a photo in "Beetles of Kansas" at the same location. Have found no other photos for comparison. Keyed out in (1) to Naupactus or Pantomorus. Going with the latter because of the former. Corrections and comments most welcome.

Moved from Fuller rose beetle.

ID
Naupactus pallidus (Horn) Very different from the darker colored cervinus which has an angled white stripe on the elytra and a narrower rounded thorax. The genus has been sunk under Naupactus.

Naupactus
Thank you Dr. OBrien. It is a good looking weevil. I will ask one of
the editors to create a guide page for Naupactus pallidus!

Moved from ID Request.

Pantomorus is genrally considered a synonym of Naupactus. Not sure if it was formalized in a revision, but Ciegler's (2010) Weevils of South Carolina has it in the genus, Naupactus now.
