Roving Ant - Camponotus chromaiodes

Roving Ant - Camponotus chromaiodes
North Kingstown, Washington County, Rhode Island, USA
August 7, 2010
Size: 8-9mm
Roving in a repeat circuit on some milkweed (Asclepias purpurascens).

Looks like Camponotus with those golden hairs.

Moved
Moved from Ants.

Maybe Camponotus chromaiodes
The distribution of red looks like Camponotus chromaiodes but there are subtle differences between some species.

This is indeed Camponotus chromaiodes
Distribution of red combined with the golden hair leaves no other possibility, at least for the fauna of the Atlantic States.
