Clouded Sulphur - Colias philodice - male

Clouded Sulphur - Colias philodice - Male
Perry County, Ohio, USA
June 20, 2004
I think this is a Cloudless Sulphur, Phoebis sennae. Photographed on clover.

Similar to Troy's photo:

Cloudless
orange on dorsal surface of FW often shows through on eurytheme

Clouded/Cloudless?
Thanks for having a look Tony. You titled your comment "Cloudless" but the image is still in the "Clouded" node. Did you not move it, or did you really mean "Clouded"? Patrick's comment makes it sound like Cloudless is out.

I meant Clouded
Talk about 'cast in stone'; make a mistake like above and there seems to be no way of correcting it

Thanks
Thanks Tony, I think we're squared away now.

perhaps Clouded/Orange Sulphur?
I think this is either the Clouded Sulphur, Colias philodice, or the Orange Sulphur, Colias eurytheme. (They are very similar.) Large white spot on hindwing is distinctive for one of those two, also you can see the dark edge to the upper surface of the wings, at least a hint. Cloudless has no big white spot on hindwing, and wings are mostly clean yellow above.

Agreed
And according to Glassberg (1) there doesn't appear to be a way to tell the two apart unless you notice some orange above, and even that's not conclusive since they sometimes hybridize.
