Mantis religiosa
The black mark on the underarm peg this one as a European mantis.
Guide.

European Mantis
I thought they were only in the Eastern US. Our climate is desert and these guys thrive. Are they one of the ones that was brought to use as pest control?

Range
M. religiosa is wide-ranging due to ootheca (eggs) being sold in garden shops, catalogues and web-sites.
