Black Wasp with White Boots on Hind Legs - Trypoxylon

Black Wasp with White Boots on Hind Legs - Trypoxylon
Baton Rouge - BREC Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, USA
August 13, 2010
Size: about 3/4 inch
Maybe not enough detail for ID. Not easy to "reach". Used 400 mm lens.
A few of these wasps visit a few curled dead leaves of a muscadine vine (wild grape).
One or another seems to return every 30 to 60 seconds.
One regular Swamp visitor has been observing this behavior for 3 days.
Always "investigate", never perch on leaves.

Resembles Organ Pipe Mud Dauber with white boots.
But why visit this same set of dead leaves?
Could there be a spider inside?

John
