Minimole cricket - Neotridactylus archboldi

Minimole cricket - Neotridactylus archboldi
St. Lucie County, Florida, USA
March 4, 2006
Size: 6mm
Although this is actually a grasshopper, it is also refered to as the pygmy mole cricket. Anyone interested should read the excellent linked paper.

This weird grasshopper is also an algae eater.
"They superficially resemble miniature versions of mole crickets
(Gryllotalpidae), but the two groups differ in
many ways, and are not at all closely related."(Deyrup)
