White Admiral - Limenitis arthemis
Little Todd Harbor campsite, Isle Royale National Park, Keweenaw County, Michigan, USA
August 7, 2010
Size: ~7 cm wingspan
One of several individuals flying above and alighting briefly on rocky beach of Lake Superior adjacent to spruce-fir-aspen-birch forest on Isle Royale. Very active and difficult to approach; I captured and photographed this one only after it floundered in shallow water.
