Size
6-10 mm
Identification
At 6-10 mm, larger than Ellipes (4-5 mm), hind tibia have four pairs of long slender plates used in swimming. Hind tarsi present (absent in Ellipes), one-segmented(2)
Range
New World, mostly neotropical(1); in our area:
N. apicialis (Say) widespread in the east, also found in sw US
N. archboldi Deyrup & Eisner restricted to central Florida
Habitat
N. apicialis occurs on sandy shorelines and edges of water; N. archboldi is restricted to the open white sands of central Florida scrub habitat
