Uloma ???
I would go with Neatus tenebroides myself.

Neatus tenebroides
Thanks for the species Donald. It looks just like the one from the UFL site, same size, shape, and color, but it doesn't have the 2 dimples in the pronotum. Does that matter?

the dimples
While the gestalt of the beetle said "Neatus", I also googled Neatus to be sure and came up with two decent images, the UFL had obvious dimples, and the other one did not. When I have time to get to the collection for some personal amusement, I will double-check the degree of "dimpleness" in this species for our area. Uloma usually has the punctures on the pronotum even and distinct across the disc, while Neatus is comparatively smooth across the disc and roughly textured near the lateral margins (as in your nice photos).

Thanks Don
for all the info on this identification.

the "dimples"
Only one of our 50 or so specimens had distinct dimples. Apparently the dimpled form is very rare up our way - can't say about Florida.

Neat!
I'll check through my pix of "Uloma" and see if any might be Neatus.

The other Uloma look OK
Jim:
The other Uloma look OK. The pronotal disc is evenly and distinctly punctate.

Thank you, Don.
I can see the difference now.

Uloma
I'd say.

Thanks Jim
