Lilypad stalker - Marpissa bina - female

Lilypad stalker - Marpissa bina - Female
Okeechobee County, Florida, USA
August 13, 2010
We spotted this female as she slowly crept across a lilypad of American White Waterlily, Nymphaea odorata, which was out in the middle of a canal. She jumped onto an unopened flower bud nearby, and went up to its tip, where she slowly encircled it for about two minutes before, apparently, spotting a leafhopper on some other vegetation nearby. She jumped back down onto another lilypad, then over to the vegetation where the leafhopper perched, and caught her dinner! I regret this lovely jumper wasn't closer so that I could have used my macro lens to take the photos. Instead, I had to use my telephoto lens, which resulted in rather poor quality images. But since this is a first of this species for BG, I felt I should submit them. I'll be looking for more of this species along the canal, in hopes of replacing these images with better ones.
