While watching the sun set over a swampy lake in Maine, I noticed this large nymph awkwardly walking (with occasional flip-like motions) across the gravel road, presumably to get to the water on the opposite side.

Dytiscus sp. (larva)
This is a Dytiscus larva (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae). Most dytiscid larvae lack lateral gills/filaments.
