Size: 1/4 to 1/2" long?

this is the flower of Tritelia Laxa, if that helps with the size.

Family Syrphidae - Syrphid Flies

Family Syrphidae - Syrphid Flies: Flower Flies, hover flies. Although some Syrphid Flies can look bee-like.

Confirmed

all the way to gender.

FYI, Scott, bee flies are typically fuzzy, while syrphids are smooth.
