Size: a cm or so?
should be Lepidophora lutea, I think, here in New York, but this animal does not seem to have the yellow tufts on the 4th tergite--I checked every image I took. There are indistinct whitish tufts there, but not like those showing in other examples. Perhaps just individual variability.

Spent on long time on goldenrod, although there was rudbeckia blooming nearby
