two-toned spider - Araneus marmoreus

two-toned spider - Araneus marmoreus
Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire, USA
August 18, 2010
Size: body, about 3/4 inch
This spider was on a goldenrod frond in the cool early morning. There was also a Japanese Beetle sharing the space. I wondered if the spider was stalking the beetle, or if they were just co-habiting the goldenrod as a place to shelter overnight.
