fork-tailed bush katydid? - Scudderia furcata - female

fork-tailed bush katydid? - Scudderia furcata - Female
Merrimack, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
August 21, 2010
Size: 1 1/2 in.
Missing her left hind leg. Does anyone know a katydid's favorite food? it seems whenever I keep them like I decided to do with this one that I can never get them to eat.

scudderia furcata
I saw a nymph eating tiny kale flower buds
as big as it's head, ravenously. Found it on lettuce, buttercrunch, and it ate a bit of that too. Most photos online, they seem to be eating flowers.

a Fork-tailed Bush Katydid
I'm not sure what they like best. They are usually found in deciduous shrubs or rank herbacious (usually dicot) weedy vegetation, so I'd say try some of the common species in the area you found it. Also, a fall-back that works with many species is Romaine Lettuce.

Moved from Katydids.
