By looking at
images of the genus in the Guide. Her abdominal color pattern seems somewhat common. I'd be happy to learn otherwise.

Right on!
The abdominal pattern is pretty distinctive for the genus.

The best way to be sure is to look at the thorax shape. In Dasymutilla and Pseudomethoca, the anterior and posterior parts of the thorax are significantly narrower than the middle in a dorsal view; basically, the sides of most New World mutillid thoraxes are convex. In Timulla, the middle is narrower, or equally as wide as the anterior and posterior portions of the thorax, making the sides somewhat concave or possibly parallel.
