Monarch Butterfly - Danaus plexippus - male

Monarch Butterfly - Danaus plexippus - Male
Douglas, Allegan County, Michigan, USA
August 22, 2010

Sex?
How do you know it is a male? I don't see the pheromone gland on the hind wing. Is it the thickness of the lines?

scent glands
I could see the scent glands while I was photographing this specimen, but I couldn't get a clear enough shot while his wings were open to post here :)

OK
It is always a good idea to mention things like this in the remarks. Now that I try harder, I think that I see a very faint hint of scent spot. Lovely shot BTW.
