Wasp Nest - Trypoxylon politum

Wasp Nest - Trypoxylon politum
Asheboro, North Carolina, USA
March 11, 2006
Size: around 10 cm

Pipe organ mud dauber.
Very nice image of the nest of a pipe organ mud dauber, Trypoxylon (Trypargilum) politum. Usually don't see them on 'natural' surfaces:-) Two wasps have already emerged, evidenced by the two large exit holes they chewed in the walls of their cells.
