Robber with Snowcone - Neomochtherus latipennis - female

Robber with Snowcone - Neomochtherus latipennis - Female
East Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island, USA
August 26, 2010
Size: ~16 to 18mm
Mowing the lawn for the first time in weeks kicked up a number of moths.
I suddenly felt something on my arm and it was this robber catching this
moth (Argyriini, maybe Urola nivalis Hodges #5464). I grabbed my camera
and managed one photo before it flew up into the tree canopy.

The moth is a bit bleached because I took the shot without changing from last nights settings
and had to brighten the robber up for details...a sacrifice to get at least the one photo.

This female seems to share a few characters with my mystery male with all the gold hair.

She has the golden mystax with gold hairs on the abdomenal plates & the leg pattern
is similar: femur black on top with the orange wrapping up the sides from below.

Yes; this does seem to be the female of Neomochtherus latipennis.

That's exciting.
I may not have gotten the genus right on these, but it's nice to know I recognized them as the same species. Thanks again.
