Honey locust moth caterpillar - Syssphinx bicolor

Honey locust moth caterpillar - Syssphinx bicolor
Upper Arlington, Franklin County, Ohio, USA
August 17, 2010
Using Tuskes et al. and Wagner's field guide, I made the S. bicolor ID, but I am still a bit unsure. The red subspiracular stripe indicates S. bicolor, but the blue-green horns indicate S. bisecta. Perhaps this caterpillar undergoes a slight color change in the prepupal stage; this one was found wandering on the ground.
