Spider on iron fence - Zygiella x-notata
Oakland, Alameda County, California, USA

Size: ~5 mm bl
This spider had a web in an inside corner near the top of the fence around the grounds of St. Albert's Priory. Its markings remind me of Zygiella, but that's not an orb web.

Moved from Spiders. I went back today. The fence had numerous cribellate webs and just one missing-sector web, with a spider in the retreat, which I'll assume is the same spider, rather than leave these photos in arachnid limbo for want of perfect certainty.

Zygiella x-notata
would be my guess. It's in its retreat. If you can, revisit it to see if it rebuilds the web.
