ant - Lasius americanus

ant - Lasius americanus
Harvard, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
March 12, 2006
Size: 3.5mm
Found under bark on an old pine log, living together with many small weevils.

Interesting, usually alienus
Interesting, usually alienus has very yellowish legs, but they aren't neoniger. I think, though it is a stretch, that neoniger and alienus can hybridize.

Lasius sp. - workers
Most probably Lasius alienus, as color, size and virtual absence of hairs on the antennal scapi match very well with this widespread species.

L. alienus
It does match up very well with L. alienus. Thanks Richard.
