Paonias excaecatus Growth Stages! - Paonias excaecata

Paonias excaecatus Growth Stages! - Paonias excaecata
Kennebunk, York County, Maine, USA
August 27, 2010
There are actually four of these, but the other one is still eating oak leaves. They are from a blinded sphinx moth that laid 4 eggs on July 11. They hatched on July 20. In the upper right is a caterpillar, in the lower right is a pupa, and in the lower left there is a pupa that is still green.

UPDATE: Both are now pupae. Both of the other caterpillars are in the soil, and not looking healthy. This should mean that they are about to pupate!!!

UPDATE 2: There are now three pupae. The last caterpillar is probably going to pupate in a few days.

UPDATE 3: All caterpillars are now pupae.

UPDATE 4: September 3, all pupae moved to another container with a white-marked tussock moth pupa.

UPDATE 5: June 21, 2011, one moth emerged!

Photo Use
Great photo. I would like to use this image " Paonias excaecatus Growth Stages! - Paonias excaecatus " for our project. Please contact me. Thank you.

Nice series
It seems that this would work better as three linked images instead of one. There is enough resolution that you can crop them so they show better individually.
The way I see it (and pardon my ignorance in the matter) there are:
1. Ready to pupate caterpillar
2. Freshly molted pupa (not molting), the color hasn't set yet
3. Pupa
In your comments it would be helpful if you dated the updates. How many days went by? When were the eggs laid? If you have images of the mother it would be nice to link them using [thumb:#]
