Lasius alienus (Foerster) has long been applied to the Nearctic population. Schar, et al 2018 (see print references) at long last elevated this species out of the Eurasian taxon L. alienus.)

Explanation of Names

Identification
Workers are dusky brown with with somewhat lighter appendages. Antennal scapes typically lack any erect setae, and propodeum and lower edges of hind femora have only a few erect setae, near the base, and reduced appressed pubescence.
Habitat
Forests and woodlands, mostly. Often nests in or under rotten wood.
Remarks
A small and common species spread across temperate forests of North America.
