Tibicen davisi, Davis' Southeastern Dog-Day Cicada
Very nice example from the "Sandhills"

This species is highly variable in color, ranging from browns to dark greens, but less frequently this colorful!

Typically, this color form is most associated with coastal Pines, but does seem to be frequently encountered in the "Sandhills" region of NC.
