Was this male Snowy tree cricket...
...eating the twig-like object by it's mouth? I'm just curious what it was, and if the TC intentionally was on the ground.

unfortunately...
I don't know the answers to your questions. I was looking for a Pileated Woodpecker when this fellow arrived at my feet. I snapped a quick photo (a bit washed out) and moved on. Next time I find one, I'll pay more attention.
