Members of this genus are not usually found on flowers, but often occur and among dry grass stalks. They may also arrive in huge numbers at blacklights.

Thanks, Matthew. I have always eyed my Phalacrids suspiciously - at least one is identified to species!

OK, I feel better -- I was afraid I'd sent in the same beetle, a wee bit different in size.

Oops. I think this is Cercyon again - if so, very sorry. These little guys are so difficult to discern. I'm rooting through my "unidentified" to match them against what I'm learning on Bugguide.net.
