I was out playing in the Seno Woods near Burlington today (even with the heat) and found this guy - along with about a few hundred sulfurs. I have done some research and am wondering if I have it correct - do I have a shot of a Red spotted purple butterfly? Male or female and how do I tell?

Moved from ID Request.

it is a Red-spotted Purple. I don't know if there is a way to determine gender from a photo. Perhaps an expert will come along and shed some light on this question.

Thanks for your help :-)
