Orb Weaver - Neoscona crucifera - female

Orb Weaver - Neoscona crucifera - Female
Alamogordo, Otero County, New Mexico, USA
August 28, 2010
This one is a big girl and she just mated a few weeks ago. I will post that picture because I have some questions about what it is I am seeing. Also right before she mated she started weaving really erratic webs where prior to and now after her webs were big and round (much like Charlotte's web). Is there a mating reason for the erratic web? She reminded me of one of the spiders from "Spider on Drugs" video.

Do you have any images showing a full dorsal or ventral view?

pictures
I will upload two more now taken last night. I hope they help.

dorsal
I uploaded another shot for you. I was really trying to focus on the eyes and to get as close as I could. I am not sure if that one helps you or if you need more of her "rear" in the shot. If so I can go out tonight and get a picture of the ventral view and full dorsal shot. Just let me know.

Eyes
are really most helpful to narrow the spider to family. When you get to the species level, they aren't that helpful. Yes, please do get those shots if you can. Thanks!

Also
If I were to guess right now I'd say this is Neoscona crucifera because I don't see the 'shoulders' found on most Araneus species.
