Identification
Mesonotum divided by nearly straight, transverse groove between bases of fore wings, the groove separating from the mesoscutum a triangular area (axilla) on either side of scutellum. Antennae inserted above above level of ventral margin of eye. Head without a crown of teeth. Abdominal tergum 1 divided medially. Abdominal terga angled outwardly.
similar to horntails but no horn at the tip of the abdomen
Habitat
The larvae bore in the dead or decaying wood of deciduous trees
