Moved
Moved to guide. Neat insect! I never saw one before.

I could have sworn we had shots of these,
but I guess not. I can't even find any images on the Web.

Yes, the species name is discoidea or discoideus, but I now have three genus names: Lepidotus discoideus, Adelocera discoidea, and Lacon discoidea. I found one today, but already had one at home to photograph, so I left it alone.

thanks for confirming
For completeness, I should have stated that the Lacon genus came from Downie and Arnett's Beetles of Northeastern NAm.

Perhaps Lacon discoidea
see Dillon & Dillon illustration & description under Lepidotus discoideus

Nice shot! can make out the "confused" elytra punctures

Also could be a guide first for the spec.

Thanks!
Thanks for your help, Tim! Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the book in question, so that is a bit of a problem. Glad you like the photo!
