Unknown Moth - Macrochilo orciferalis

Unknown Moth - Macrochilo orciferalis
Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa, USA
August 4, 2010
Size: just over 1 cm

Moved to Macrochilo orciferalis
Moved from Rivula stepheni.

I checked the paper describing Rivula stepheni and I don't think this fits, the antennae and palpi in particular. This does look a lot like some of the BOLD images for Macrochilo orciferalis. Interestingly, there are two BIN groups for that species one of which has a more northernly range. This could be split into two species.

If Maury sees this move and disagrees, I will defer to his judgement.

Looks more like Macrochilo orciferalis
The range and wing patterns seem to be a better fit, wouldn't you agree?

Hmm...
I think you're on to something here, Cameron.

Mark, very nice addition to Bug Guide!

Very cool!
I never know what's going to show up at my lights. Thanks for the ID on a moth I'd pretty much forgotten about!
