Immature Southern Black Widow? - Latrodectus variolus

Immature Southern Black Widow? - Latrodectus variolus
Monrovia, Madison County, Alabama, USA
August 30, 2010
Size: dime to nickel sized
scurried out from under some landscaping material i had in the lawn while i was mowing. had a large wolf spider or fishing spider as a meal recently. also very cobweb-ish webbing, not like an orb weaver, etc.

still a juvie?
if it is still a few molts from maturity, it is a little hard to tell.

i am leaning towards variolus. might put just a few dollars on that ;)
would love to see some glass shots though before being sure.

Widow
It's certainly a widow. I'd like to see what widowman thinks of species. He's better at them than I am.
