The Red Baron - Sympetrum illotum - male

The Red Baron - Sympetrum illotum - Male
Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
August 31, 2010
This guy has hung around all summer.
He showed up in my yard a couple of months ago. He and his mate flew in tandem to my "Po Girls Water Feature" (kiddy pool w/ blackberry debris). They proceeded to hover over the pool, and lay their eggs in my pool... Which obligated me to keep the pool full all summer.

Meadowhawk
This appears to be a Sympetrum, one of the meadowhawks perhaps S. illiotum "Cardinal Meadowhawk" Do you have any shots that show the thorax unobscured by the wings?
