Stiletto Fly - Acrosathe vanduzeei - female

Stiletto Fly - Acrosathe vanduzeei - Female
Santa Barbara County, California, USA
September 2, 2010
Size: ~1cm
Found in sandy clearing in dune scrub, female was apparently ovipositing in the loose sand by repeatedly plunging her abdomen fully into the soil and spreading her wings once she was as deep as she could go after which she would extract it and walk/fly an inch or two and repeat the process. Maybe Acrosathe sp.?
