Unknown Velvet Ant from CA

Unknown Velvet Ant from CA
Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, Contra Costa County, California, USA
August 29, 2010
Found this small velvet ant crawling across the trail. Looked less hairy than other velvet ants I've seen in the area, so I wonder if it's something other than Dasymutilla.

Looks like Photomorphus
This might be a female in the genus Photomorphus, but it could also be Sphaeropthalma. It's the female of some nocturnal male, but we can't be certain of much more than that without DNA of both sexes.

cool
Thanks for taking a look at it.
