Sphecid? - Chlorion aerarium - female

Sphecid? - Chlorion aerarium - Female
Sutter Buttes, Sutter County, California, USA
October 8, 2005
Size: wasp ~3cm
Without the spider's continued efforts to wrap it up, the wasp rapidly shrugs off the silk. The whole process takes about 7 minutes from the time the wasp enters the web. When I was forced to leave, the wasp had completely freed itself and was preparing to make off with the spider. The whole time it was in the web, the wasp rhythmically contracted its body causing the silk to just slide off.
