Mummy Wasp - Aleiodes smithi

Mummy Wasp - Aleiodes smithi
Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
August 29, 2010
Size: approx 1/2"
Originally submitted as: Ichneumon Wasp ?
Found in the underbrush along a grassy trail in southeastern PA.

Moved
Dr. Shaw has confirmed this as Aleiodes smithi Marsh & Shaw.

Moved from Braconids and Ichneumons.

Moved
The banded flagellum is less common in braconids than ichneumonids, but the shape of the head and the long palps suggest braconid to me. Perhaps Aleiodes smithi. Compare photo on page 90 of Shaw 2006.

Moved from ID Request.
