Wow were you ever lucky!
When I was a kid there were (unknown to me what kind)many mantids in Toronto parks. I unfortunately had not a camera. 35 years passed before I saw one again, and that was about 3 yrs ago at Fairbank Lake in Ontario. Have not seen a one since.
